XMTrading Leverage and Stop Out Explained: Maximum 1:1000, Equity-Based Limits, Margin Call and Stop Out 20%

XMTrading leverage is up to 1:1000 by equity tier. Margin call warning at 50%, stop out at 20%. See the tiers and how to change leverage.

XMTrading advertises leverage of up to 1:1000, but the limit falls as your balance grows. Many traders also mix up the margin call and the stop out, two levels that sit far apart.

On the official trading conditions page, checked on 20 October 2026, the 1:1000 tier covers total effective equity of USD 5 to USD 40,000. A margin call warning appears at 50% of required margin, and positions close automatically at 20%.

This article lists each tier, the Zero account limit and the steps to change leverage. You can then check your own account setting before you trade.

XMTrading leverage and stop out: the short answer

  • Maximum leverage is 1:1000 for total effective equity of USD 5 to USD 40,000.
  • The limit steps down to 1:500, 1:200 and 1:100 as equity rises.
  • The Zero account is capped at 1:500. Standard, Micro and KIWAMI go up to 1:1000.
  • A margin call warning appears when equity falls below 50% of required margin.
  • Stop out happens at 20%. Positions are then closed automatically.

Stop out means the margin level at which the broker closes positions automatically. Margin call is only a warning that comes earlier.

All figures below come from the official XMTrading pages in Japanese, checked on 20 October 2026. Terms apply, and the current rules in your client portal take priority.

XMTrading leverage tiers by total effective equity

XMTrading sets the maximum leverage by your total effective equity. Effective equity means your balance plus or minus open profit and loss. The official page says the ranges are based on total effective equity.

※ The official page lists USD 200,000 in both the 1:200 range and the 1:100 range. Check the exact boundary in your client portal.

The official page also states that leverage stays the same during market-moving news. How tiers apply to positions that are already open is not stated on the official page.

XM leverage restriction on the Zero account

The Zero account has a lower ceiling than the other three accounts. The official page shows a maximum of 1:500 for Zero.

XM margin call and stop out 20%: how the levels work

  1. 01
    You open a position

Required margin is set aside as collateral. Higher leverage means a smaller required margin for the same position size.

  2. 02
Equity falls below 50% of required margin

A warning appears on the MT4 or MT5 platform. You can add funds or reduce positions.

  3. 03
Equity falls to 20% of required margin

Positions are closed automatically to protect the account balance. This is the stop out.

XMTrading describes the margin call as a time buffer. The platform warns you before forced closing starts.

Worked example with a USD 100,000 position

The figures below are an illustration only, not an XMTrading specification. They assume one position with a notional value of USD 100,000 and ignore swaps and other costs.

Own calculation from the official 50% and 20% levels (illustration, checked 20 October 2026)
LeverageRequired marginMargin call warning belowStop out at
1:1000USD 100USD 50 equityUSD 20 equity
1:500USD 200USD 100 equityUSD 40 equity
1:200USD 500USD 250 equityUSD 100 equity
1:100USD 1,000USD 500 equityUSD 200 equity

※ Required margin here is notional value divided by leverage. Real margin depends on the instrument and contract size.

Higher leverage lowers required margin, but it also shrinks the room between your equity and the stop out. A small price move can then close the position.

Cautions before using high leverage at XMTrading

  • Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains.
  • Margin call and stop out levels apply to your margin level, not to the price move you expect.
  • Equity tiers are automatic. A larger balance can lower your maximum leverage.
  • XMTrading states a negative balance reset, so losses do not exceed the deposit. Terms apply.
  • FX and derivatives trading carries a very high risk of losing your invested capital.

Next step: compare XMTrading conditions on one page

  • Pick the account type first, because the Zero cap is 1:500.
  • Decide how much leverage you actually need, not the maximum offered.
  • Note your stop out distance before you open a position.
  • Confirm the current figures in the client portal.
