JPYC (JPY Coin) is a yen-denominated stablecoin issued by JPYC Inc. Legally it is not a crypto asset but an "electronic payment instrument", issued and redeemed (converted back to yen) at 1 JPYC = ¥1. Many people search for "how to buy JPYC", but the official way to obtain it under the system is to have the issuer's "JPYC EX" platform "issue" it to you after you transfer yen.
This article walks through the process from opening a JPYC EX account, through issuance and receiving JPYC in a wallet, to redeeming it back to yen, based on the issuer's official FAQ and pre-contract disclosure document (confirmed 18 September 2026). The upper and lower limits, fees and processing times are all figures from official materials. It also covers, at the end, points to watch if you obtain JPYC outside JPYC EX (on a decentralized exchange or an overseas exchange). Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or hold any particular product.
How to buy JPYC: the basics are "issuance through JPYC EX" — limits and fees at a glance
JPYC is less something you "buy" on an exchange than something the issuer "issues" to you once you pay in yen. The official platform for issuance and redemption is JPYC EX (jpyc.co.jp), operated by JPYC Inc., a Type II funds-transfer service provider under the Payment Services Act (registration No. 00099, Kanto Local Finance Bureau Director-General). The terms of issuance and redemption are set out in the pre-contract disclosure document as follows.
| Item | Content | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Issued and redeemed at 1 JPYC = ¥1 | The issuer bears the obligation to redeem (terms of service; funds-transfer business) |
| Limit per transaction | ¥1,000,000 for both issuance and redemption | Changed from "¥1,000,000 per day" to "¥1,000,000 per transaction" in the 15 May 2026 update; repeated requests in quick succession are restricted |
| Minimum per transaction | ¥3,000 for both issuance and redemption | Same amount across all four chains: Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon and Kaia |
| Fees | No fee for opening or maintaining an account, or for issuance or redemption | Users bear their own bank transfer fees and blockchain gas fees. The disclosure notes a redemption fee may be introduced in future |
| Standard turnaround | In principle immediate after acceptance | May take until the next business day due to AML/CFT (transaction monitoring) |
| Supported chains | Ethereum, Avalanche C-Chain, Polygon and Kaia | The contract address is the same across all four chains: 0xE7C3D8C9a439feDe00D2600032D5dB0Be71C3c29 |

"JPYC Prepaid" (contract 0x431D…), a prepaid payment instrument issued until 30 May 2025, cannot be redeemed for cash and is no longer issued. What is currently issued is the funds-transfer-type "JPYC" (contract 0xE7C3…) officially launched on 27 October 2025, which differs both in legal nature and in how its backing assets are managed. Even if a wallet displays the same name, distinguish them by contract address.
Opening a JPYC EX account: as little as 10 minutes with My Number Card, no document photos needed
Identity verification at JPYC EX is handled entirely through the "Public Personal Identification Service", which uses the IC chip in a My Number Card. There is no photo-based verification using a driver's licence or similar, so anyone without a My Number Card and the password for its signing certificate cannot open an account. The official site states the process takes "as little as 10 minutes" (confirmed 18 September 2026).
- 01Register your email address and password
From the JPYC EX top page, go to "Open an account (individual)" and set your login password via the link sent to your email address. You also register a phone number for two-factor authentication by SMS or voice call.
- 02Preparation and agreeing to the documents (done on a smartphone)
Prepare three things: a My Number Card that supports public personal identification, a smartphone with the "LIQUID eKYC" app installed, and the password for your signing certificate. Then review and agree to the pre-contract disclosure document, terms of service and privacy policy. The procedure cannot be carried out by anyone other than yourself, including a family member acting on your behalf.
- 03Online identity verification (eKYC)
Scan your My Number Card with the LIQUID eKYC app and enter your password. Once complete, you receive an email saying "Identity verification complete (step 3 of 5)".
- 04Enter your basic information
Your name and address are filled in automatically from your My Number Card. You enter your name in kana (used to match bank-transfer names), occupation, annual income and purpose of trading. You also declare any US tax obligations and whether you are a foreign politically exposed person (PEP).
- 05Account opened
If there are no issues, the account is opened automatically in principle, and you receive an email saying "Account opening complete (step 5 of 5)". If manual review is needed you are notified by email, and the time this takes varies by case.
After opening the account, and before issuance, you register a "bank account for withdrawals" and a "wallet address to receive JPYC". The official FAQ requires that the wallet support WalletConnect, allow custom tokens to be added, and support the network you plan to use. The FAQ names HashPort Wallet and Unifi as wallets with "standard support for JPYC", and states that questions about whether a specific other wallet works are outside the scope of support.
How to issue JPYC: choose a network and pay in yen by bank transfer
- 01Enter the network, receiving address and order amount on the "Issue" screen
Choose the blockchain you want to receive on (Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon or Kaia) and your registered wallet address, then enter your order amount in yen (1 JPYC = ¥1; up to ¥1,000,000 per transaction, from ¥3,000).
- 02Authenticate with a one-time code and complete the issuance reservation
The "Issuance reservation complete" screen displays the destination bank account details and the payment deadline.
- 03Transfer the yen to the specified account
Transfer an amount "exactly matching" the reserved amount, from a name that matches your registered account name in kana, by the payment deadline. The transfer fee is borne by the user.
- 04Confirm receipt in your wallet
Once your payment is matched to your order, it appears in "Transaction history" within a few minutes and you receive an issuance-complete email. The official FAQ's rough estimate is 15–25 minutes for Polygon and Ethereum, and 10–15 minutes for Avalanche and Kaia. If JPYC does not show up in your wallet, add the token using the official contract address.
According to the official FAQ, if the amount paid does not match the reserved amount, the transfer name does not match the registered kana name, or the payment deadline is missed, "the issuance does not go through and the full amount is refunded" — there is no partial fulfilment. In principle, the refund requires the user to apply for a "recall" (furimodoshi) at their own bank, and the recall fee is borne by the user. Where a recall is not possible, the issuer refunds the amount by bank transfer instead, for a set fee of ¥2,000.
Issuing and redeeming JPYC itself is free, but sending the JPYC you received to another address requires paying that blockchain's network fee (gas) in its native currency, such as ETH, AVAX, POL or KAIA. The fact that you cannot send anything if your wallet holds only JPYC is the point first-time users most often get tripped up by.
How to redeem JPYC back to yen
Converting JPYC back into yen is called "redemption". Log in to JPYC EX, go to "Redeem", enter the network, your sending wallet address and the quantity to make a reservation, then send a quantity of JPYC that exactly matches the reserved amount to the destination address shown on screen. Once the transfer is complete, yen is paid into your registered bank account. Since the May 2026 update, redemption is accepted from any supported network as long as the sending wallet is registered.
- Always send from a wallet address already registered with JPYC EX (sending from an unregistered address is not redeemed and is not covered by compensation or a return of funds)
- The amount sent must exactly match the reserved amount (for example, sending 3,000.0001 JPYC against a 3,000 JPYC reservation is a mismatch and does not go through)
- Paste the destination address using the on-screen copy function (typing it manually risks a mistaken transfer; a transfer to the wrong address cannot be reversed)
- Do not send to the contract address (the contract address shown is for confirming the type of token, not a destination for funds)
- Send by the "sending deadline" shown on the reservation-complete screen (the reservation is cancelled automatically after the deadline; JPYC sent after cancellation is not redeemed)
Redemption also has a standard turnaround of "immediate after acceptance", though it may take until the next business day due to transaction monitoring, as stated in the disclosure. The redemption fee is currently free, but the pre-contract disclosure document explicitly notes that "a fee may be charged for redemption in the future".
Buying JPYC outside JPYC EX: prices that are not ¥1, fake tokens, and overseas exchanges
Because JPYC is a token on public blockchains, you can also obtain it without going through JPYC EX, on a decentralized exchange (DEX) or an overseas crypto exchange. However, the 1 JPYC = ¥1 rate is guaranteed only for issuance and redemption by the issuer; an exchange's price is set by supply and demand. On 17 September 2026, South Korea's Upbit began trading JPYC (against KRW, BTC and USDT, with deposits and withdrawals on Ethereum only), and on the same day JPYC EX temporarily suspended issuance reservations on Ethereum and Polygon (restored by the early hours of 18 September). Anyone considering obtaining JPYC on an exchange should check the following.
- Whether the trading price is far from ¥1. Even JPYC bought above ¥1 is redeemed at JPYC EX at 1 JPYC = ¥1
- Whether the contract address of the token you receive matches the official one (0xE7C3D8C9a439feDe00D2600032D5dB0Be71C3c29). The issuer put out a warning about fake tokens and fake accounts on 28 October 2025
- Whether the sending network is a supported chain (Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon or Kaia). The networks each exchange supports differ
- As of 18 September 2026, this site could not confirm on the official pages of MEXC and BingX, both listed here, that either supports JPYC deposits or spot trading
- Redeeming JPYC obtained outside JPYC EX still requires a JPYC EX account and a registered wallet

Frequently asked questions
Q. Where can I buy JPYC?
A. The official way to obtain it is to have the issuer, JPYC Inc., issue it to you through "JPYC EX" after you transfer yen. It is issued at 1 JPYC = ¥1, from ¥3,000 up to ¥1,000,000 per transaction, with no issuance fee (you bear your own bank transfer fee). It also circulates on decentralized exchanges and overseas exchanges, but the price there is set by supply and demand and is not necessarily ¥1.
Q. What do I need to open a JPYC EX account?
A. Three things: a My Number Card, the password for its signing certificate, and a smartphone with the "LIQUID eKYC" app installed. Identity verification is handled entirely through the Public Personal Identification Service, so you cannot open an account with a driver's licence or similar. The official site states the process takes as little as 10 minutes.
Q. What is the issuance limit for JPYC?
A. ¥1,000,000 per transaction, for both issuance and redemption. This changed from "¥1,000,000 per day" to "¥1,000,000 per transaction" in the 15 May 2026 update, though requests made in quick succession are restricted. The minimum is ¥3,000 per transaction.
Q. Are there fees for issuing or redeeming JPYC?
A. Opening or maintaining a JPYC EX account, and issuing or redeeming JPYC, are all free. You bear your own bank transfer fee and the blockchain gas fee when sending JPYC. The pre-contract disclosure document notes that a redemption fee may be introduced in the future.
Q. How long does it take for JPYC to arrive?
A. Once your yen payment is matched to your order, the official FAQ's rough estimate is 15–25 minutes for Polygon and Ethereum, and 10–15 minutes for Avalanche and Kaia, before you receive an issuance-complete email. The standard turnaround is immediate in principle, but it may take until the next business day due to transaction monitoring.
Q. How do I convert JPYC back to yen?
A. Make a reservation under "Redeem" on JPYC EX, then send from your registered wallet, by the deadline, a quantity that exactly matches the reserved amount to the destination address shown. Once the transfer is complete, yen is paid into your registered bank account. There is no redemption fee.
Q. What happens if I transfer the wrong amount?
A. A payment that does not match the reserved amount, one made from a name different from your registered name, or one made after the deadline, all mean the issuance does not go through and the full amount is refunded. The refund is normally made by recalling the transfer at your own bank (fee borne by you); if a recall is not possible, the issuer refunds it by bank transfer instead, with a fee of ¥2,000 deducted.
