Prohibited practices at offshore (overseas) forex brokers are set by each broker's terms of use and bonus terms. They are not uniformly defined by law, so even for hedging (opening opposite positions), some brokers allow it within one account, some prohibit it across accounts, and some prohibit it only on bonus accounts. If a breach is found, the terms may provide for measures such as deletion of the bonus, cancellation of profit and suspension (freezing) of the account.
This article breaks the commonly cited prohibited practices into hedging, bonus arbitrage, multiple accounts, scalping around economic releases and latency trading, and explains what tends to be treated as a problem. It then summarises the terms of the seven listed brokers whose wording we could confirm in a table, and marks anything we could not confirm as Check the official terms. This is knowledge for avoiding terms violations, and it does not cover how to get around detection.
What are the prohibited practices in offshore forex? The main practices set out in the terms
What is called a prohibited practice in offshore forex falls broadly into three types: practices that expose the broker to a risk-free loss, practices that go against the purpose of bonuses and offers, and practices that exploit the trading system or price feed delays. In every case, whether a practice is prohibited and how far the ban extends changes with the broker, the account type and whether a bonus is involved.
| Practice | What it involves | Why it tends to be treated as a problem | Treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hedging | Holding a buy and a sell in the same instrument at the same time | Across accounts, a profit on one side can be offset against a loss on the other, so bonuses or trading volume can be built up with no risk | Generally allowed within one account and prohibited across accounts or between brokers. Check each broker's terms |
| Bonus arbitrage | Using a bonus to take profit in a way that carries no loss | The bonus funds come from the broker, so withdrawing without taking risk goes against its purpose | Prohibited under the bonus terms, with profit cancelled. Check each broker's terms |
| Abuse of multiple accounts | The same person joining a bonus or promotion more than once under multiple names or accounts | It means receiving an offer meant for one person more than once | Excluded from many bonuses and promotions. Check each broker's terms |
| Scalping around economic releases | Concentrating short-term trades before and after an economic release | Spreads widen and execution can deviate, so brokers may restrict it | Treatment differs by broker and account. Check the official terms |
| Latency trading | Executing trades to exploit delays in the price feed (time lag) | Trading that exploits feed delays may be prohibited by the broker as unfair trading | Some brokers state a ban in their terms. Check the official terms |
※ The Treatment column is a general summary of tendencies and does not make definitive statements about any individual broker. Check each broker's terms of use and bonus terms before you open an account to see what is actually allowed.
Even at the same broker, a trade that is allowed on a regular account can be restricted on an account that received a bonus. When you read the terms, check the terms for the account type you plan to use together with the terms of the bonus you plan to receive.

Is hedging prohibited in offshore forex? Single account, multiple accounts and between brokers
How far hedging (holding a buy and a sell at the same time) is allowed in offshore forex is the most commonly misunderstood point. In general, many brokers allow hedging within a single account, while many prohibit hedging across multiple accounts or with accounts at other brokers. That is only the general picture and does not apply to every broker, so checking each broker's terms is essential.
| Pattern | Example | Tendency in the terms | Point to note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hedging within one account | Holding a buy and a sell on USD/JPY at the same time in one account | Allowed by many brokers. May differ by account type | How required margin and the stop out level are handled (whether margin on the hedged portion is waived) differs by broker |
| Hedging between your own multiple accounts | Buy on account A, sell on account B | Prohibited by many brokers. Tends to be stricter on bonus accounts | Simply splitting accounts can be seen as aiming to meet bonus eligibility or trading volume conditions |
| Hedging between brokers (with an account at another broker) | Buy on this broker's account, sell on another broker's account | Prohibited by many brokers. Cited as a typical example of bonus arbitrage | If the other account is also in your name, assume it can be checked even if you do not report it |
※ Hedging within one account is allowed by many brokers, but some terms restrict extreme uses such as aiming for swap. Within the range we have confirmed, XS states that on its swap-free account, trades deemed to be abuse of swap (such as hedging) may lead to cancellation of profit and retroactive claims for swap (official page, verified on 26 September 2026).
In the data confirmed by this site, AXIORY states in its official FAQ that hedging within the same trading account is possible (margin level needs to be managed). On the other hand, under the terms of its 15th Anniversary Real Trading Starter Pack, hedging using accounts inside or outside the broker leads to disqualification and cancellation of the credit. So even at the same broker, the treatment differs between normal trading and the bonus terms.
In HFM's Gold Mission (September 2026), trading volume using the bonus portion and hedge positions are excluded from the volume count. Some promotions do not count volume built up by hedging toward meeting the conditions. Check the conditions for which trades are counted for each promotion you join.

Why bonus arbitrage and multiple accounts are prohibited, and the terms at listed brokers
Bonus arbitrage refers to trading that uses a bonus to try to withdraw profit without taking risk. A typical example is combining multiple accounts or accounts at other brokers to offset profit and loss, and the terms prohibit it using words such as arbitrage, hedging and fraudulent trading. Multiple accounts are also excluded from many promotions as a way of receiving an offer meant for one person more than once.
The bonus and promotion terms of the listed brokers that this site has confirmed contain the following statements (the statements are limited to each bonus or promotion's terms and do not cover the whole of the trading terms for regular accounts).
| Broker | Prohibited practices stated | Scope | Measures stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| HFM | Hedging using accounts inside or outside the broker, joining repeatedly with multiple accounts, arbitrage and similar if suspected | 20% deposit bonus on the Top-Up Bonus account (verified on 1 September 2026) | Immediate deletion of the bonus |
| Monaxa | Trading via a VPS is prohibited. Scalping and high-frequency trading, hedging inside or outside the broker, arbitrage and similar | Lifetime Bonus account and Welcome Bonus account (verified on 2 September 2026; the English version of the terms prevails) | Cancellation of profit and deletion of the bonus; may be subject to cancellation of the bonus and invalidation of profit |
| AXIORY | Trading aimed at withdrawing credit or profit without taking economic risk, and hedging using accounts inside or outside the broker | 15th Anniversary Real Trading Starter Pack (terms 4.1) | Disqualification and cancellation of the credit. If fraud is found, eligibility is cancelled without notice |
| Vantage Trading | Churning, hedging inside or outside the broker, fraudulent trading, false information and breach of the terms | No-deposit sign-up bonus (verified on 19 September 2026) and deposit bonus (verified on 5 August 2026) | Cancellation of eligibility and deletion of credit and profit |
| Axi | Trading deemed suspicious or improper, such as arbitrage or hedging between multiple accounts | 25% cushion-type deposit bonus (JP25Axi) | Excluded from the promotion. Credit may be deleted and trades invalidated |
| DecodeFX | Inflating trading volume unfairly through hedging or other means, irregular trading, trading with special software, and trading using multiple accounts | Peska deposit cashback (verified on 1 October 2026) | Excluded from the promotion. The grant may be cancelled and profit adjusted |
| XS | Hedging within one account is allowed, but hedging across accounts, fraudulent acts and breaches of the terms are not. On swap-free accounts, abuse of swap (such as hedging) | Real trading contest (verified on 7 September 2026). Swap-free accounts for the swap point | Contest: loss of prize eligibility. Swap-free: possible cancellation of profit and retroactive claims for swap |
| Exness | Check the official terms | Check the official terms | Check the official terms |
※ The statements in the table summarise content that this site confirmed from each broker's official terms and guidance and published on the broker pages and offer pages. Conditions can change without notice, and the table does not cover the whole of the trading terms for regular accounts. For Exness there is no confirmed statement we can cite in this article, so it is marked Check the official terms.
As the table shows, the core of the prohibited practices is written in the bonus and promotion terms. Before depositing, check on your account page and in the official terms the prohibited practices that apply to your account and the measures for a breach (deletion, cancellation, invalidation of profit). Some bonus accounts restrict the use of a VPS or EAs, so take particular care if you have already decided how you will trade.

Is scalping around economic releases or latency trading prohibited?
Scalping (very short-term trading) is not itself prohibited by law. Whether it is allowed depends on the broker's policy: some brokers set no limit on the number of trades, while others restrict it on bonus accounts or some accounts. Within the range we have confirmed, AXIORY states in its official FAQ that scalping is possible with no limit on the number of trades. On the other hand, on Monaxa bonus accounts scalping and high-frequency trading may be subject to cancellation of the bonus and invalidation of profit.
Points to watch when scalping around economic releases
Around economic releases such as the US employment report, spreads tend to widen and execution tends to deviate (slippage). For this reason, some brokers restrict new orders or short-term trading only around releases. Where the terms say so, a breach may lead to trades being cancelled or profit being cancelled, so look in the terms for the account type you plan to use for items on releases, news and scalping.
What is latency trading?
Latency trading refers to executing trades to exploit delays (latency) in the price feed, aiming at the gap from the prevailing rate. Because it takes advantage of price differences against the broker's liquidity provider, some brokers state in their terms that it is prohibited as unfair trading. It is treated differently from ordinary scalping, and it is rare to fall under it unintentionally, but it is worth checking that it is not listed under prohibited trading in the terms.
- Check in the terms whether scalping, high-frequency trading and EAs are allowed on the account type you plan to use
- Check whether there are rules restricting new orders or short-term trading around economic releases
- Check whether prohibited trading includes trading that exploits price feed delays or execution deviations
- Check whether a bonus account has stricter prohibited practices than a regular account
- If you cannot tell, contact support before you start trading and keep the reply
In the data confirmed by this site, the conditions for using scalping and EAs at Exness are marked Check the official terms. Treatment can differ by account type and instrument, so check the official help centre and the terms of use.

How account freezes and profit cancellation happen in offshore forex, and steps to avoid a breach
When a terms violation is suspected, the measures a broker takes, within what is written in the terms, include deletion of the bonus, cancellation of profit, invalidation of trades, loss of eligibility and suspension (freezing) of the account. The form of a freeze also differs by broker and situation, such as a halt to new trading, restricted login or withholding of withdrawals. The specific criteria are often not disclosed, so there is a limit to what an article can state definitively.
| Measure | What it involves | Examples confirmed by this site |
|---|---|---|
| Deletion of the bonus or credit | Cancelling a bonus that has already been granted | HFM (Top-Up Bonus account) deletes it immediately if suspected, and Vantage Trading cancels eligibility and deletes the credit |
| Cancellation or invalidation of profit | Cancelling profit earned from the bonus or the trades concerned | Monaxa (bonus accounts) may invalidate profit, and XS (swap-free) may cancel profit and claim swap retroactively |
| Loss of eligibility or disqualification | Removing you from a campaign or contest | AXIORY (Starter Pack) disqualifies and cancels the credit, and XS (contest) removes prize eligibility |
| Suspension (freezing) of the account | Restricting trading, login or withdrawals | Generally a measure taken on a terms violation or suspected fraud. Check each broker's terms of use for how it is handled |
※ The specific rules on freezes differ by broker. Exness's rules on freezes and dormant accounts are not described in this article because we have not been able to confirm them in the official terms.
Accounts with no activity can also be tidied up or closed
Even without a violation, an account with no trades or deposits and withdrawals for a set period may be tidied up. In the data confirmed by this site, HFM's Top-Up Bonus account is closed if there are no deposits, withdrawals or trades for 60 days, and for Vantage Trading's no-deposit sign-up bonus, if there is no deposit or trade on the first account for 90 days, the account is archived and the bonus can no longer be received. Both are bonus-related rules, so check each broker's terms for the dormancy rules on regular accounts.
- 01Read the prohibited practices in the terms before you open an account
In the terms of use and the bonus terms, look for items on hedging, arbitrage, multiple accounts, VPS, EAs and scalping.
- 02Check that the methods you plan to use are allowed on that account
Check whether the methods you plan to use, such as hedging within one account or scalping, are allowed.
- 03Ask support in writing about anything unclear
If you cannot tell, contact support before you start trading and save the screen or email of the reply.
- 04If you receive a bonus, also check the measures for a breach
Before you receive it, check the scope of deletion, cancellation and invalidation of profit, and the trading conditions for withdrawals and bonus accounts.
- 05If you come under suspicion, organise the facts and contact support
If there is a freeze or a withheld withdrawal, organise your trade history and confirm in writing which clause of the terms applies.
Many brokers reserve the right to change or end their terms and promotions without notice. Trades that were once allowed can be restricted later, so keep checking the official terms regularly while you continue to trade. Along with the risk of loss, understand that there is also a risk of funds being withheld because of a terms violation when you make your decision.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Is hedging prohibited in offshore forex?
A. It depends on the broker, the account and whether a bonus is involved. In general, many brokers allow hedging within one account, while many prohibit hedging across multiple accounts or with accounts at other brokers. Within the range we have confirmed, AXIORY allows hedging within the same account in its official FAQ, yet under its 15th Anniversary Starter Pack, hedging using accounts inside or outside the broker leads to disqualification. Check the terms for the account you use.
Q. When is an account frozen in offshore forex?
A. Terms violations and suspected fraud are the main causes cited. Examples are bonus arbitrage, joining repeatedly with multiple accounts, hedging across accounts or brokers, and false information. In the terms confirmed by this site, the first things stated are deletion of the bonus, cancellation of profit and loss of eligibility, and the criteria for a freeze need to be checked in each broker's terms of use.
Q. What is bonus arbitrage in offshore forex?
A. It is trading that uses a bonus to try to withdraw profit without taking risk. A typical example is hedging that combines multiple accounts or accounts at other brokers, and the bonus terms of HFM, Monaxa, Vantage Trading, Axi and others state that if hedging inside or outside the broker or arbitrage is suspected, the bonus and profit are subject to deletion or cancellation.
Q. Is it prohibited to hold multiple accounts in offshore forex?
A. Not every broker uniformly prohibits holding several accounts, but joining a bonus or promotion more than once is excluded under many terms. For example, Monaxa's bonuses are limited to one account per profile, email address, phone number, device and IP address, and XS's real trading contest requires one account per person. Check each broker's terms for how many accounts you can hold and how offers are treated.
Q. Is scalping around economic releases prohibited in offshore forex?
A. It is not prohibited by law, and is decided by each broker's and account's terms. Around economic releases spreads widen and execution tends to deviate, so some brokers restrict new orders or short-term trading. Within the range we have confirmed, no uniform treatment could be confirmed, so check the terms for the account you use and the reply from support.
Q. Is latency trading prohibited?
A. Some brokers state in their terms that trading that exploits price feed delays to execute trades is prohibited as unfair trading. It is treated differently from ordinary scalping, but it is safer to check before you open an account that it is not included under prohibited trading in the terms.
