HFM mixes deposit bonuses, a no-deposit offer and prize draws, so it is hard to tell which ones you will actually receive.
Two bonuses are standing: the Top-Up 20% deposit bonus (capped at USD 5,000 in total) and Bonus Hunter, which adds JPY 45,000 with no deposit. Until 23:59 on 2 November, the Halloween 100% bonus also adds up to JPY 45,000 on your first deposit.

Top-Up 20% adds 20% each time you deposit into a Top-Up Bonus account. Transfers from your wallet count as deposits. It has no end date and runs until HFM changes it (terms, clause 2.1).

How much you receive, by deposit pattern (20% and 100%)
While the Halloween 100% runs, the amount of your first deposit decides how much you receive. Only the first deposit in the period counts for the 100%, and the cap is JPY 45,000.

Before you claim, close all open positions and pending orders. Once the profit is transferred, the Bonus Hunter account closes automatically.

Can you withdraw HFM bonuses? How much is removed and when
No bonus can be withdrawn, whatever the offer. Profit from trading with a bonus can be withdrawn without restriction (terms, clause 3.13).
A withdrawal reduces the bonus too. The share removed equals the share of your withdrawable amount that you actually take out.

- Suspected hedging across internal or external accounts removes the bonus at once
- Joining with several accounts and arbitrage also lead to removal
- 60 days with no deposits, withdrawals or trades closes the account without notice
- Losses from a stop out are not compensated
The same maths works in yen. If your withdrawable amount is JPY 120,000 (deposit 100,000 + profit 20,000), withdrawing JPY 60,000 (50%) removes half of a JPY 20,000 bonus, or JPY 10,000.
When an account closes after 60 days, only qualifying profit moves to your wallet. If there is no profit, the bonus returns to HFM and the account is archived.
Withdrawing with open positions lowers your equity and therefore your margin level.
Can offshore forex bonuses be withdrawn? Cushion vs credit type
Does the bonus act as a cushion? Room before stop out
HFM's terms let the bonus be used as margin and also absorb losses. It works as a cushion-type bonus, though losses can still wipe it out.
Margin level is equity divided by required margin, times 100. HFM sends a margin call at 50% and stops out at 20%.

A JPY 20,000 bonus adds 20 pips of room before stop out. The size of each loss does not change, so set your lot size from your own funds, not the bonus.

ROFM (Return on Free Margin): rates and a worked example
Besides deposit bonuses, HFM runs four standing rebate and award programmes. For all four, HFM's official site carries a disclaimer that they are not intended for residents of Japan.
ROFM pays a rebate on free margin, which is equity minus required margin. The rate depends on that day's free margin and your volume so far in the month.

If you deposit by 2 November, make your first Top-Up Bonus deposit JPY 45,000. Later deposits get 20%. If you want to try without depositing, use Bonus Hunter and meet both 30-day deadlines. If you need leverage above 1:1000 or withdraw often, the Premium account suits you better.
